Keep Safe, Mountaineer!

This post was written a day before Adrian Alba’s body was found.

I pray that if fellow mountaineer Adrian Alba didn’t make it through the rough conditions of nature these past days, may his remains at least be found. I am hoping for the best though, that he is safe somewhere.

I’m so good in huffing that I won’t miss this chance to let everyone know how disgusted I am with what’s happening in our little community. I seek no attention nor trying to be infamous but hey, it’s a person’s life that we’re talking about.

Fly me to Mindanao!

lanzones

One of my favorite airlines is holding a contest! With the choices of Hermosa in Zamboanga, Lanzones in Camiguin, and MassKara in Bacolod, it took me a lot of time deciding what answer I should give to their question of Why do you want to experience and join that festival? Alright. I’ll let you know my dilemmas.

I’ve already been to Camiguin and Bacolod and so I’m left with Zamboanga. Hermosa Festival sounds great but it is held every 12th of October. That’s Wednesday this year and I don’t think that I’d still be given enough mercy by my bosses if, again, I would apply for a few more days off from work. That is, if I only get to be chosen as one of the winners. Oh well, dreaming is free.

And who can resist Bacolod’s world-renowned MassKara Festival? No one. But, I have unfinished business with Camiguin and I’d really love to go back there. Actually, I just made excuses so I’d have no other options but to choose Lanzones Festival.

Shame on me, I’ve only seen one Philippine festival my whole life. I should be more embarrassed had I not witnessed my hometown’s Feast of Peñafrancia. Below are some of the photos I’ve taken during our last Bicolandia visit.

Behind the Photographs

Rachel, I miss you.

For the past seven years, I’ve already had three cameras. My love for photographs can be seen on the amount of pictures I’ve stored and shared online.

Late 2007, Rowjie and I decided to save up and go back to Boracay for another vacation. But when we already came up with the money we needed, we had a change of heart. We thought Boracay could wait. And so we spent all of our savings on mountaineering gears and equipment; among them was our first ever tent: Hubba-Hubba by the Mountain Safety Research (MSR).

Lambanog

My knowledge of Lambanog and its roots is close to zero. All I know is that it’s an alcoholic beverage which has been around since the Spanish colonial era. I promise to bring you more stories about this native brew in my next posts.

For now, I can’t wait to share this small collection of videos taken during one of our boring nights in the mountain. See how lychees that are plunged in a bottle of Lambanog for two months could make your world turn upside down.

Apologies for the low resolution of the video and my noobery with video editing (the hi-res version will take 1381294821374823 years to upload). Have fun, anyway!

Submitted for the approval of the Team Evercrest, I call this story…
